The Voodoo 1 was not just a revolutionary product, it started a whole industry. Before it, industrial and personal users had the same focus : more CPU megaherz for more performance. When the Voodoo chip popped out of nowhere, personal users suddenly had a shift in focus. A new star was born and its light would outshine the CPU business in raw FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) and rumor mill speed. Next to CPU, another word gained increasing weight in hardware conversations : FPS (frames per second).

Voodoo 1 - 1996

The start of a new chapter in gaming excellence. For the first time gamers got a glimpse of a whole new gaming environment. Although it was an earth-shattering experience in that time, it was opening a whole new market and, therefor, did not get as much attention as it could have.
